AI at the service of grassroots and social organizing

From debateto action plan

Entrama makes the most of meeting in person: it turns a plenary, an assembly, a workshop or a debate with hundreds of people into a clear action plan.

People debate in teams and bring the ideas; an AI model sorts them and puts them on display. That way the gathering doesn’t stop at venting: it becomes an engine for change.

For cooperatives, federations, social organizations, NGOs, universities and the public sector: local, provincial and national government.

What we believe

Talking is the starting point.Change is the goal.

We are Lawal, a technology cooperative. We work alongside cooperatives, social organizations and universities, and at their gatherings we kept seeing the same thing: a lot of effort to come together, and many valuable ideas that get lost once it’s over. Entrama is our contribution to make that effort count: so every voice matters, and what we build together keeps growing afterwards.

technology cooperative

Entrama was born from three questions.

  1. 01

What if the whole room could contribute, not just those who dare to speak up?

With EntramaEveryone joins from their phone and works with their group. That way, people who rarely take the floor contribute too.

  2. 02

What if what we decide didn’t get lost when the day ends?

With EntramaAgreements are written down, with who takes charge of each one, and the report is ready at the close. What was decided gets followed up.

  3. 03

What if we could focus on debating, not on taking notes?

With EntramaWhat each group adds shows up, organized, on the big screen. Nobody has to write up what was said.

How it works

Hundreds debating,without losing the thread.

Entrama organizes the debate from start to finish: it forms the groups, keeps time, gathers what each one agrees on and shows it to the room. At the end, with an AI model, out comes the report.

  1. Groups are formedBy lottery, mixing organizations and regions, or each person picks their own.
  2. The debate runs in stagesEach group with its own questions and the time in sight.
  3. Agreements are recordedConclusions, actions and who takes charge of each one, from the phone.
  4. It’s presented to the roomOn the big screen: group by group, all together, or the plenary share-out.
  5. Testimonies are recordedWith a phone, and uploaded right there even with a weak signal.
  6. More information is addedThe survey, the organization profiles and the problems people submitted. An AI model groups it all and turns the audio into text.
  7. The report comes outWith each group’s work, the agreements and the numbers from the gathering.

How it’s built

A tool in the hands of the organization.

  • Light, open modelsAudio is transcribed on the organization’s own computer, with an open model. Nothing is sent to an outside service.
  • Not tied to any companyThe report is built with whichever AI model each organization chooses. We don’t depend on any particular company.
  • People have the final sayWhat the model produces is a draft, and the organization reviews it. Data such as age or gender identity is only shown as totals, never next to a name.
  • Made for the social economy and organizationsEach gathering sets its own stages, questions and the data it asks for. And anyone without a phone signs in at a registration desk.
